The new year has always been my favorite time of year. I love the feeling of a fresh start—like turning to a crisp, blank sheet of paper, ready to write a new chapter. Each year, I find my goals becoming clearer. Even if I haven’t achieved everything I set out to do, the new year gives me a chance to try again with renewed determination.
As an artist, I believe that embracing creative activities and pursuits adds beauty and fulfillment to life. It’s like painting with brighter colors, enhancing every moment and making life more enjoyable.
Today I'll share with you tips on how to live acreative life, and acheieve those art goals this year.
Research shows that people who write their goals down are more likely to achieve them. I have always written my goals because it helps me visualize them and see how my future will look like.
Not all my dreams have come true, but a big one like having my own apartment has happened in 2024. Also some goals might take somtime but eventually it'll turn reality if you work on it.
Achieving a goal even though it took longer than you expected is better than not achieving it at all.
The writing method that I like to do is writing your year in a memoir fourm. I found this method through my favourite content creator Laura Galebe here. Some of my biggest goals came true by doing it!
You basically write your year in the past tense sense as if all your dreams became reality in a memoir form. Then you put it somewhere where you don't see it and you only open it by the end of the year. Be as detailed as possible so that you can visualize everything clearly - mine was 3 pages long -
another great technique is to write down your goals and how you'll achieve them step by step.
For example, I want to practice new abstract painting technique.
How to achieve it:
making time on the weekends and before work to paint for at least 20 minutes.
This technique, inspired by my favorite YouTuber Bahja Abdi, is a powerful way to build self-belief. Bahja emphasizes that keeping an evidence portfolio helps your brain recognize your capability to achieve goals by reminding you of your past successes.
I like to keep mine in a notebook, where I jot down all my accomplishments. Revisiting it from time to time motivates me to keep pushing forward and serves as a powerful reminder of how far I’ve come.
This practice is incredibly helpful for organizing your thoughts. Take some time to write down all your ideas on paper—no matter how big or small. Once they’re all out, you can prioritize which ones you want to focus on first. It’s a simple yet effective way to bring clarity to your creative process.
I recently watched a video by the artist Sara Tepes that completely changed my perspective on the importance of drawing every day. Initially, I thought creating art daily might be excessive, but she made an excellent point: even spending a small amount of time making art each day helps solidify your identity as an artist and builds confidence in your skills. This daily practice is a simple yet transformative way to grow creatively and stay deeply connected to your artistic journey.
it's like learning a language, if you don't practice it for too long you might forget it.
But remeber, even if you don't make art for too long, you're still an artist. Don't push yourself to make art if you don't feel like it.
Often times us creatives tend to be introverted people, but by being too much on our own space it can feel lonley at times and that no one understands your creative vision.
This is why having art friends that you can talk about art and discuss ideas is so important to have.
I only have very few art friends but it feels so good to be able to talk to them about art projects, and it's motivating to have someone with similar goals and ambitious.
I found most of my art friends through instagram, and lately I've been connecting with other artist through this app Milan Art created by Milan art institue. You an connect with other artists and see if there's anyone in your city!

Extra tips:
- surround your space with art
- try new mediums and hobbies just for fun
- listen to inspiring podcasts
- watch movies and documanteries about art
I hope that you had a great start to this year, if not that's okay I'm there with you. May all of your wishes and goals become reality this year.
Let's work together to become the best versions of ourselves and live a healthy, wealthy and fulffiling creative life
Happy new year! and as always, stay creative
Sara ♡
